Teaching

I have over a decade of experience teaching classes on a huge range of subjects, including topics at the university level. Although I have taught classes of many sizes, I especially enjoy teaching small to medium groups in an interactive setting. I also do one-on-one mentoring.

In the Pagan context, I have been invited to speak at Sacred Space Conference, Fertile Ground Gathering, the DC chapter of the Theosophical Society, DelMarVA Pagan Pride Day, Northern Virginia Pagan Pride Day, Baltimore Pagan Pride Day, and other venues in the mid-Atlantic.

Most of my presentations are intended to be about an hour and a half long, but they can be adapted based on the setting. Here are a few of the workshops I am currently offering:

Multiple Intelligences and Magic

The idea of multiple intelligences helps us assess our abilities in several different domains as separate but related ways of approaching the world. This workshop uses multiple intelligences to examine the different skills and talents we use for magic, and how we use these alone and in combination. We discuss how to make the most of your talents, how to use your strengths to counterbalance your weaknesses, and how we can bring multiple intelligences together for more engaging and powerful magical work.

Nonlinearity and Magic

Magic uses a nonlinear paradigm which contrasts significantly with the linear thinking common for the last five hundred years. Major areas of modern life, including commerce and social structures, have been dominated by linear assumptions, but recent re-understandings of math and science are opening the way to an increase in nonlinear thinking. This presentation discusses historical examples and highlights connections between magic and current developments in nonlinearity.

Axis Mundi and Omphalos

This exploration of two different visualizations of the sacred center, and how we organize our spatial understanding in sacred terms, leads to different ideas about what grounding and centering can mean. It will include an experiential guided meditation component.

Columbia, the American Athena

The ancient goddess Athena manifests today in America as Columbia, a personification of our country and its ideals. Learn how to work with Columbia in her present form and experience a guided meditation to encounter five different aspects of Columbia.

Ogham

Learn to work with the ancient Celtic alphabet where each letter is connected to a sacred tree. Similar to the Futhark (runes), this system can be used for divination, magic, and developing one’s relationship with the spirits of the trees represented. Participants will make their own basic Ogham set. ($5 material fee per participant)

Planetary Hours and Days of the Week

Ever wondered why the days of the week are in a certain order? The answer has to do with planetary hours, a fascinating piece of astrology that is frequently neglected. Activities help participants explore the planetary hours and discover why we hate Mondays and love Fridays.

Intuitive Reiki

Intuitive Reiki combines the gentle yet powerfully effective healing energy of Reiki with participants’ own intuition and awareness of imbalances in the client’s body to facilitate healing of mental, emotional, and physical imbalances. In Level I, students learn the history of Reiki, the Reiki symbols, and how to use Reiki to heal themselves.

I can also teach several different workshops on Tarot, trance journeying, uses of minerals (stones and crystals) in magic, learning to connect with the landbase, and more.
