Discrimination against Pagans – Details, anyone?

I’m curious if anyone currently keeps detailed records, either numbers or actual case summaries, of instances of discrimination against Pagans. I know Gwendolyn Reece’s survey will have some information about both discrimination and fear of discrimination, and I know that there are lots of good organizations out there that help people subjected to discrimination, but I was wondering if anyone kept notes that I could use as a reference.

I was recently trying to explain to a Christian how different the experience is of being Wiccan, or Pagan in general. In that kind of situation, it’s much more effective to have documentable instances and statistics to be able to refer to: We know that at least X number of people have had religious discrimination affect a custody case, Y number lost jobs, and so on. I’ve been able to find quite a bit by combing through the Wild Hunt’s back stories, but I know that’s not going to catch even all the documented cases, let alone the ones that never went to court.

If such a thing doesn’t exist, would anyone besides me find it valuable? Would anyone want to help create and maintain such a reference? And would people and organizations be willing to share examples, especially with documentation?

I would think the lady liberty league would have some of this information.

Absolutely. If I take this on as a project, collecting information from groups like that would definitely be a starting point.

  2. No actual numbers coming to light, but a few sites that might lead to such information:

and, yes it’s wikipedia, but the list of citations is extensive and may prove helpful:
